Kings of K-pop BTS was formally appointed as the 2030 Busan World Expo's honorary relations ambassador on Tuesday. It was announced last month that the seven-member band will have a global concert to support South Korea's bid to hold the 2030 World Expo in Busan.

The appointment ceremony, which took place at the BTS studio, at HYBE Co Ltd's conference hall on the 19th floor, was co-hosted by Busan City and the Bidding Committee for the 2030 Busan World Expo.

According to the Busan Metropolitan City press release, all members of BTS namely Kim Taehyung V, Jungkoo, Jimin, Jin, SUGA, RM, and J-Hope, Prime Minister Han Deok Soo, who is the co-chair of the 2030 Busan World Expo, Chairman Choi Tae Won of Korea's Commerce and Industry Chamber, Park Hyung Joon, who is the mayor of Busan, and Park Ji-Won HYBE CEO attended the event.

Park Hyung-Joon said the port city of Busan and BTS has been working together as partners at the World Expo for the leap of world prosperity and mankind.

The Mayor of Busan said that the Bangtan Boys, who have made a great contribution to human culture's development, is a global leader that best meets the World Expo's purpose of proposing universal values, which presents a prospect for the future and responds to the new era.

Last year, Lee Jung Jae, the popular South Korean actor who starred in "Squid Game" was selected as the 2030 Busan World Expo bid's first public relations ambassador.

Park Hyung-Joon shared that after Lee Jung Jae, BTS joining as the public relations ambassador will greatly increase interest in and support for the 2030 Busan World Expo, both nationally and internationally.

BTS posted photos from the ceremony on their official Twitter account, captioning it as they were BTS, 20300 Busan World Expo's PR ambassador.

In 2021, Moon Jae-In, the then South Korean President, appointed the iconic K-pop band as the Special Presidential Envoy for Future Generations and Culture, before the 76th UN General Assembly.

The World Expo, which is hosted every five years, attracts millions of people to the host city during its duration of six months. The last World Expo was held from October 1, 2021-March 31, 2022 in Dubai after being postponed because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

At the moment, the members of BTS are on a hiatus during which they plan to focus on their individual projects.
