BABYMONSTER's rising star, Ahyeon, finds herself mired in controversy prior to her official debut, having been recorded using a racial slur in a pre-debut performance.

Ahyeon, one of the eagerly awaited members of the girl group BABYMONSTER, is facing a backlash over her performance while still a student at Hanlim Multi Art School. The controversy sparked after a past video surfaced on the internet featuring Ahyeon covering Nicki Minaj's "Feeling Myself" and Bruno Mars's "Finesse" (feat. Cardi B).

The performance exhibits Ahyeon's promising singing and rapping talent. However, it's her use of explicit lyrics, notably the repeated use of the 'n-word', that has drawn criticism. This term, often used within African American communities, can carry both friendly and derogatory connotations, and its usage by people outside the black community is generally considered inappropriate and offensive.

The international K-pop fan community has been known for its sensitivity towards such racial and cultural issues. Ahyeon is not the first K-pop figure to face backlash over the use of the racial slur; others, including aespa's Giselle, Stray Kids' Jisung, MAMAMOO's Hwasa, BTS' RM, TWICE's Momo, and BLACKPINK's Jennie, have also encountered similar controversy.

Amid the brewing controversy, fans have directed their disappointment at YG Entertainment, urging the company to facilitate an apology from Ahyeon. Concerned fans believe an immediate response is needed to prevent any negative impact on BABYMONSTER's forthcoming debut.

However, there's a contingent of fans offering a defense for Ahyeon, citing her youth at the time of the performance and potential ignorance about the racial undertones of the term. This defense has been met with skepticism by others who point out Ahyeon's early exposure to English and her aspirations as a singer and rapper, which they argue should have made her aware of the word's implications.

The issue has since spilled over onto BABYMONSTER's official Instagram, with fans posting comments on Ahyeon's photos demanding an explanation.

Notable comments include, "Ahyeon, you have disappointed fans by saying a racial slur, that was extremely disrespectful. Please apologize to the people you have disrespected," and "We sincerely hope that you will publicly apologize to the black community for choosing the word. Apologizing and taking responsibility for one's actions will demonstrate growth, maturity, and commitment to creating a more inclusive environment for all."

The controversy continues to unfold as fans await an official response from Ahyeon or YG Entertainment.
