K-pop mega girls' band BLACKPINK has created history by becoming the first female pop act to dominate the Billboard 200 with "Born Pink", their latest studio album.

Billboard made the announcement that the group's latest studio album had debuted at the No. 1 spot on its respected Top 200 Albums chart. The chart ranks the United States' most popular albums. With this achievement, the four-member band has become history's first-ever female pop act to top the Billboard 200. In addition, BLACKPINK has also become the first all-female band from any country to bag the No. 1 rank since 2008.

According to Billboard, the chart ranks decided by a specific formula that comprises official-only streams on both ad-supported tiers of video and audio music services and subscriptions, as well as download sales that indicate purchases from global full-service digital music retailers, with sales from direct-to-consumer sites excluded from the calculations of the charts.

During the week ending on September 22, 'Born Pink' got a total of 102,000 equivalent album units and the total score of the album comprised 75,500 traditional album sales. It marked the seventh-biggest sales week in the US for any album released in 2022, with 25,000 streaming equivalent album units, which translates to 37.49 million on-demand audio streams in one week.

Additionally, in the first week of the release itself, the album amassed 1,500 track equivalent album (TEA) units. "Born Pink" is the K-pop band's second album in the Top 10 after their last album, which incidentally was also their debut, "THE ALBUM" which ranked at the No. 2 spot on the Billboard 200 in 2020, as well as the group's fourth entry on the chart.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK also achieved their third No. 1 rank on the Global 200 after the new album's debut single "Pink Venom" debuted on top of the September chart. The band now has three No. 1 debuts on the Global Excl. U.S., following the pre-release "Pink Venom" and the 2020 hit "Lovesick Girls".

Both "Shut Down" and "Pink Venom" are from "Born Pink". 2022 is already proving to be a super year for the group, with maknae Lisa winning the Best K-Pop award at the 2022 MTV video music awards for her solo debut song "Lalisa", while the band also won the Metaverse performance of the year. It was a new category introduced at the 2022 VMA's.
