Superstar K-pop group BTS had a massive, groundbreaking year. From shattering Spotify streams to topping Billboard charts to sweeping up Guinness World Records, they did it all.

Here is a look at some of the accomplishments the Bangtan Boys achieved and the records they broke in 2021.

  1. The seven-member band surpassed 11 billion streams on South Korea's largest streaming service Melon on December 20. They have become the first act to do so.
  2. Band member V broke the Guinness World Records last week for being the fastest person to have both 1 million and 10 million Instagram followers.
  3. The K-pop megastars also made history with their "Permission to Dance on Stage" LA concert, which took place at the SoFi Stadium in California's Inglewood. The band earned $33 million for the concert's four shows with a record-breaking sale of 214,000 tickets.
  4. BTS became the first Asian act to win the prestigious "Artist of the Year" award at the 2021 American Music Awards.
  5. The group has three of the US's 10 top best-selling songs in 2021, more than any other band. "Butter" was No. 1, "Dynamite" was No. 2, and "Permission To Dance" was No. 5.
  6. The Bangtan Boys shares the record for Billboard Hot 100's most No. 1 debuts with Drake and Ariana Grande. All of them have five, BTS accomplished the feat earlier this year in October with Coldplay collaboration single "My Universe".
  7. Three of the group's songs, "Permission To Dance", "Butter", and "Dynamite" made it to number one on the Billboard Global 200 chart in July this year, more times than any other artist.
  8. "Butter"'s premiere in May was Spotify's biggest song debut in the platform's history. The song garnered over 11 million streams in one day. The record was later broken by "Easy On Me" by Adele in October.
  9. In May, "Butter"'s music video broke four Guinness World Records on Youtube, including YouTube's most viewed music video in 24 hours by a Kpop group, YouTube's most viewed video in 24 hours, YouTube's most viewers for the premiere of a music video, and YouTube's most viewers for the premiere of a video.
