GFRIEND failed to renew its contract with its agency, Source Music. With no contract renewal, it led to the girl group's sudden disbandment, although it was earlier stated that the band did not break up yet.

As this is an unfortunate situation for a girl group that is doing well and has many fans, the agency decided to address the issues raised by fans and apologize as well. In its official statement that media outlets published, Source Music discussed what will happen to GFRIEND's social media accounts, video channels, and fan club memberships.

As per Newsen, the agency released a letter and listed down all the fans' queries about the band and gave a corresponding answer and explanations to each one. Firstly, Source Music said that it would not shut down GFRIEND's social media, but posts on the group's Weverse and fan cafe would be restricted for some time.

Secondly, with regards to the group's official fan club called the BUDDY, the agency said that it will be refunded the membership fees whose accounts are still active. Lastly, for fans who signed up for fan signing events, they will also be refunded with the fees since the event could not take place due to COVID-19, and now the group has split up already.

In any case, the members of GFRIEND personally confirmed that they have disbanded. Each one has posted a handwritten letter for the fans and expressed their gratitude for the unending support and love they have been getting. BUDDYs were especially touched with Sowon's message as she suggested that they may still see the six members together in the future.

"Although GFRIEND is officially over, this is not the end for us, so do not have a hard time, BUDDY." Allkpop quoted leader Sowon as saying in her letter. "It's hard to convey our time together in just this letter, but like always, even if I do not say everything, you guys know my heart more than anyone else. "
