BTS secured another achievement this month after the MTV Movie & TV Awards announced that it won the Best Music Documentary award. It was said that the group is the second artist ever to have this recognition.

The awarding event for the 2021 MTV Movie & TV Awards was divided into two parts. These are the main show and the Unscripted event for the unscripted media that include reality shows, documentaries, and others.

The main show was held on May 17 at the Palladium in Los Angeles, while the Unscripted awarding followed the next day on May 18. Billboard reported that the ceremony was hosted by Niki Glaser and Leslie Jones, who also took home the Best Comedic Performance award for the film titled Coming to America 2

In any case, BTS won in the Best Music Documentary category for its Break the Silence: The Movie film. This was released in September 2020 and directed by Park Jun Soo.

The 90-minute movie showed behind-the-scenes footage of BTS' Love Yourself World Tour for the years 2018 to 2019. It was a sequel to the group's 2019 documentary film called Bring the Soul: The Movie, and reportedly, Break the Silence earned $8,954,345 at the global box office.

MTV Awards announced BTS' win and officially beat its big rivals such as Taylor Swift, Bille Eilish, Shawn Mendes, Ariana Grande, Britney Spears, Demi Lovato, and the Bee Gees. "#BTSArmy, you BUTTER believe it! Butter @bts_twt  is taking home the golden popcorn for Best Music Documentary at the #MTVAwards: UNSCRIPTED!" MTV Awards tweeted.

Finally, a short video clip that shows the BTS members thanking their fans was also attached to the announcement. It was noted that this is only the second time that the Best Music Documentary award was included in the award categories. The first time was in 2018, and Lady Gaga won for her Gaga: Five Foot Two film.
