BLACKPINK member Jennie shared personal memories of her childhood and emotional bond with her mother during a televised interview on tvN's You Quiz on the Block, aired April 7. The singer addressed her tearful "I love you, Mom" moment at Coachella and spoke candidly about growing up overseas.

Host Yoo Jae-suk asked about Jennie's emotional finale during her solo Coachella stage, when she dedicated her final track "Starlight" to her mother. "I really promised myself I wouldn't cry," Jennie said. "It was the last song, and my mom was watching. I just broke down. I can't even watch the footage-I'm sobbing in it."

Asked about her lyric, "I just wanted to make my mom proud," Jennie explained, "My job is flashy and it's all about appearances. But sometimes I get overwhelmed, blaming myself. In those moments, I ask, 'What am I doing this for?' and I remind myself-my dream was just to live happily with my mom and make her proud."

Jennie also recounted her mother's reaction after the concert. "She came backstage and just said, 'You worked hard.' I thought she'd be excited, but instead she just patted me and left. I came out from makeup, and she was gone," she said, laughing.

Jennie revealed that her mother asked her not to talk about her on-air. "She told me, 'Just talk about Jennie today.' But I accidentally said, 'I love you, Mom,' and now it's everywhere," Jennie said. "We're just a very normal mother and daughter, but it got wrapped up in this beautiful image."

The singer also reflected on studying abroad alone at age 10 in New Zealand. "I think my mom wanted me to grow up in a bigger world," she said. "She stayed with me for the first two months, but I don't remember it. Later she said she called me, and I told her not to because I wanted to go play."

Jennie added, "From a young age, I kind of knew if I stayed in Korea, I'd have to study a lot more."

The artist's reflections follow a series of high-profile solo performances at the 2025 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, where she performed on April 13 and 20. Her vulnerable moment on stage drew wide praise for its honesty and sincerity.
