The family of the late actress Kim Sae Ron has pushed back against mounting rumors about her alleged romantic ties to a male idol, claiming the actress had no other relationships during her time with actor Kim Soo Hyun and condemning the spread of what they called "distorted facts."

Speaking to Hankyung on May 22, a representative for Kim's family stated: "Kim Sae Ron was by no means a promiscuous person. She was always sincere when meeting people and originally had a laid-back personality with many 'male friends'...During her relationship with Kim Soo Hyun, her feelings for him were deep. So as far as I know, she didn't even have the leisure to meet anyone else."

This statement follows reports by Korean media outlets including Money Today and Hankyung, which claimed Kim had been romantically involved with a popular idol identified as "A" beginning in 2018. The relationship allegedly paused in 2019 and resumed in early to mid-2022, coinciding with Kim's drunk driving scandal. The idol was said to have financially supported her during that period.

However, Kim's family insists the narrative is inaccurate and distressing. "Regardless of the truth of the content, the excessive intrusion into her private life is causing the family immense pain," her representative told Hankyung.

The family had previously asserted through the Garo Sero Research Institute's YouTube channel that Kim was in a relationship with Kim Soo Hyun from late 2015-when she was in middle school-until July 2021. Screenshots of alleged text messages between Kim and an acquaintance were used to support the claim, though their authenticity remains unverified.

In contrast, new reports suggest inconsistencies. According to Money Today, Kim allegedly dated other individuals during her relationship with Kim Soo Hyun, including idol "A" and singer WOODZ between 2021 and 2022, as well as other unnamed boyfriends in 2016 and 2018.

An entertainment official told Money Today: "Kim Sae Ron continued to meet with 'A' as a friend even after breaking up. We are only bringing this up to investigate the timing of her relationship with Kim Soo Hyun. We do not want to dig up his personal information indiscriminately."

Rumors that one of her former partners belonged to a famous seven-member boy group were also addressed and debunked.

Meanwhile, Kim Soo Hyun's side has challenged the claims, requesting the bereaved family to disclose the original digital evidence via forensic analysis. According to reports, they have yet to receive a response. His agency also disputes the reported relationship timeline, stating that Kim Soo Hyun was romantically involved with an idol-turned-actress between 2016 and 2019-not Kim Sae Ron.

The public feud has led to a legal standoff, with both sides reportedly engaged in multiple lawsuits.
