NewJeans’ Hanni Allegedly Refuses to Sign Ador’s Visa Extension Request, Agency Declines to Comment
As NewJeans continues to operate under their new name, NJZ (Enziji), member Hanni's visa status has become a topic of debate.
Hanni, who holds dual citizenship in Australia and Vietnam, reportedly had her visa expire in early February. On February 11, TV Daily reported that Ador had prepared all necessary documents to extend Hanni's visa, but she allegedly refused to sign the application.
Hanni has been staying in South Korea under an E-6 visa, which is granted to foreign entertainers such as singers, actors, and models for cultural and artistic activities. However, this visa loses validity if the artist's contract with their agency is terminated. According to South Korea's Immigration Act, foreign artists must apply for a status change or secure a new employment contract within 15 days of their contract ending to remain in the country legally.
When questioned about Hanni's visa status, an Ador representative told Newsen on February 11, "We cannot confirm this matter."
The speculation surrounding Hanni's visa comes amid NJZ's official name announcement on February 7, where members Hanni, Minji, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein declared their independence from Ador. They also confirmed their participation in 'ComplexCon' in Hong Kong from March 21 to 23, along with the release of a new song on March 23. Some fans are now questioning whether the group's decision to perform in Hong Kong is related to Hanni's visa expiration.
Meanwhile, Ador remains firm in its stance regarding the legal status of NewJeans' contract. On February 10, the agency stated, "The exclusive contracts between NewJeans members and Ador remain legally valid. The claim that they have been terminated is a one-sided assertion."
The agency further emphasized, "We have filed a preliminary injunction to confirm Ador's managerial authority and have also initiated a lawsuit to verify the validity of the exclusive contracts. We are currently awaiting the court's decision. When reporting, we ask that the official team name, 'NewJeans,' be used based on the legally binding contract."
