Singer IU has unexpectedly changed the title of her upcoming song in response to criticism that the original title used language associated with the LGBTQ+ community in a heterosexual context.

EDAM Entertainment announced on the 19th, "Effective today, the title of IU's pre-release track, originally titled <Love wins>, scheduled for release at 6 PM on the 24th, has been changed to <Love wins all>."

The company further explained, "We decided to change the title after considering opinions that the original title might overshadow the important message of the song. This change is made to show more respect and support for everyone who loves in various ways."

The statement added, "If there is one thing that completely opposes the message of our upcoming release, it would be 'hate,' which was also detailed in the track's intro released on the 18th. We sincerely hope that in a world without hate, every form of love prevails, and the true meaning of this song reaches everyone without causing any harm."

The criticism emerged on social media following the initial announcement of the pre-release track's title and main poster on the 16th. The original title 'Love Wins' was a slogan adopted by the LGBTQ+ community to celebrate the legalization of same-sex marriage by the U.S. Supreme Court on June 26, 2015. The phrase was also used to commemorate and support the community during the 2016 mass shooting at a gay club in Orlando, Florida.

Some members of the LGBTQ+ community raised concerns that IU's use of their slogan as a song title might dilute its significance or overshadow it with the song's image.

On the other hand, opinions like "It's abnormal to control the use of words frequently used by the LGBTQ+ community," "There's no copyright on words, and it's overreaching," and "Considering there's a gospel and book titled 'Love Wins,' it's hard to see it as solely symbolic of homosexuality" also existed, indicating a strong argument against the problematization of the song title.

As the controversy continued, IU also released a handwritten introduction to her new song.
