Up-and-coming group NewJeans is set to take up the mantle for the embattled Jamboree.

In the 2023 Saemangeum World Scout Jamboree K-pop concert, NewJeans has been announced as a performer.

However, public sentiment isn't all positive, with many criticizing the decision as passing the buck to NewJeans.

Originally scheduled for August 6 at the Saemangeum outdoor stage in Buan, the Jamboree K-pop concert was postponed to the 11th due to insufficient preparations. The venue then changed to Jeonju World Cup Stadium, only to be shifted again to Seoul Sangam World Cup Stadium due to the effects of Typhoon Khanun. With this, the camping site for Jamboree attendees was moved to the capital area.

Yet, even this venue isn't finalized. While the Sangam World Cup Stadium is a top contender, considering the potential impact of the typhoon, the indoor Gocheok Sky Dome is also being considered.

In just one day, both the concert time and venue have changed thrice, causing chaos among the artists. ENMIX, STAYC, VERIVERY, and MC Jang Dong-yoon have had to cancel their performances due to conflicting schedules. Other performers are also scrambling to adjust their commitments without making firm announcements. Rumors suggest that the lineup from KBS2's "Music Bank" might perform, but all claims are currently unconfirmed.

Given these tumultuous events, there were whispers that global superstars BTS would grace the Jamboree's K-pop concert stage.

However, Jin and J-Hope are currently serving their military service, while Suga has cancelled his military service postponement and is preparing to enlist. V is also immersed in prepping for his final solo release.

As a result, NewJeans has been selected as the new 'savior'. Despite debuting less than a year ago, they have topped the US Billboard Main Album chart, "Billboard 200", and have entered the "Hot 100" with all their title tracks, proving their rise as global stars. Even with their soaring popularity, the weight of rescuing the beleaguered Jamboree is undoubtedly hefty.

In addition to NewJeans, SEVENTEEN is also being considered to perform, although their participation may vary based on the final venue.

The Jamboree boasts participation from over 43,000 individuals from 159 countries. With its massive scale, the total budget amounted to 117.1 billion KRW. Despite this, there were multiple issues from the get-go, including heatstroke cases due to extreme heat and attendees suffering from insect bites and sunburns. Ultimately, 6,000 participants from major participating countries like the UK, the US, and Singapore packed up their bags, casting doubt on Korea's capacity to host large-scale events.

With numerous controversies, the Jamboree, now also facing the threat of an approaching typhoon, decided to halt the event and commence early withdrawal from the 8th.
