Esther Yeo, the CEO of a business with annual revenue of 100 billion KRW and a family medicine specialist, has opened up about her struggles with severe depression and even considering euthanasia.

On April 15, Yeo uploaded a video titled "Depression, I've Improved a Lot" on her YouTube channel. Previously, she revealed that she had been taking an antidepressant called Lexapro and had undergone electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) for her depression at a university hospital.

Yeo said, "I think the electroconvulsive therapy was very effective. Before the treatment, when my depression was severe, I couldn't stand the sight of my husband. I couldn't stand watching him overeat or walk around the bathroom while the water was running." Now, three months after the treatment, she finds her husband, Hong Hye-geol, very attractive.

She added, "Even though I'm a doctor, I didn't recognize my own depression and neglected it for a long time. I didn't realize I had depression since my 20s. Many people say they feel refreshed when they wake up in the morning, but I haven't felt that way since I was 27."

Yeo thought her chronic fatigue stemmed from having less muscle mass than average or from the considerable mental stress she experienced while growing up. "I thought this chronic stress might have exhausted my adrenal glands, but it turned out depression was mixed in there as well," she said.

At one point, Yeo's depression worsened to the point where she searched for euthanasia methods online. "I knew it was absolutely wrong, which is why I actively underwent electroconvulsive therapy," she explained.

Referencing the drama "The Glory," she said, "Yum Hye-ran's character says, 'Even if my husband hits me, I'm still a cheerful X.' Even with depression, I'm a cheerful X." Yeo showed her improved condition.

Her husband, Dr. Hong Hye-geol, expressed his happiness, saying, "I'm happy now too. My wife has dramatically improved over the past few months. She had been in a lot of pain. Her depression was very severe and had persisted for years."
