In the first week of April 2023, the entertainment industry faced a chilling wind as actor Kim Sae-ron, singer Shin Hye-sung, and composer Don Spike found themselves facing legal consequences for their actions.

On the 5th, the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 4 imposed a fine of KRW 20 million on Kim Sae-ron for her non-custodial indictment on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving).

In response to reporters' questions, Kim Sae-ron denied rumors that she had appealed her living expenses, stating, "It's true that I'm working part-time and have to pay a lot in compensation and penalties, but I never appealed for living expenses." She also admitted, "There's nothing to say about drunk driving itself, as it was wrong," but expressed fear over false reports that she could not clarify.

Following Kim Sae-ron, singer Shin Hye-sung and composer Don Spike appeared in court on the 6th. The Seoul Eastern District Court Criminal Division 4 held the first trial for Shin Hye-sung, indicted for refusing a breathalyzer test and illegal use of a vehicle. The prosecution demanded a 2-year prison sentence for Shin Hye-sung.

Shin Hye-sung's legal team pleaded for leniency, citing mental difficulties and an agreement with the car owner. Shin Hye-sung apologized for disappointing many and promised never to repeat his actions. This incident was not his first, as he had also been caught driving under the influence in 2007.

On the same day, the Seoul High Court Criminal Division 3 held the first trial for Don Spike, indicted for violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes (drug administration). The prosecution claimed the original sentence was unfair, considering the evidence and the fact that Don Spike continued his wrongful acts while in custody. They argued that probation was inappropriate for a high-profile celebrity like Don Spike.

The court requested submission of relevant documents from both parties before the next trial, considering factors such as fairness of punishment for co-offenders. The second appellate trial is scheduled for May 18th.

The public's gaze has turned cold toward these once-beloved celebrities, in stark contrast to the current season.
