The Korean entertainment and film industry has been experiencing a roller coaster of events due to COVID-19. In the industry's goal to maintain a healthy business, many drama and movie filming was halted due to resurgence cases.

In the midst of this, the star-studded movie Pirates 2 was not exempted. A representative of the upcoming blockbuster film confirmed on November 26, with media outlets, that one of its staff members has tested positive for COVID19.

The original 2014 film, The Pirates, has previously made waves on the blockbuster scene. The movie was sold to 15 countries, including the USA, Japan, and Germany, at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival.

The movie The Pirates revolves around the Ming Emperor's Seal of State that a giant whale swallowed. An enormous reward will be given to whoever brings the seal back.

To hunt the whale, Jang Sa Jung (Kim Nam Gil) sailed with his people of bandits from the mountains. However, their group clashes with another pirates group while sailing headed by a female captain, named Yeo-Wol, played by Yon Se Jin.

The Second Season Of The Pirates

Lotte Entertainment, the movie distributor, confirmed the second season with a star-studded lineup of the cast. The industry's big names to cast the film includes Han Hyo Joo, Lee Kwang Soo, Kwon Sang Woo, Chae Soo Bin, EXO's Sehun, Kim Sung Oh, Park Ji Hwan, and this year's Baeksang Arts Awards' Best Actor Kang Ha Neul.

The Pirates: Goblin Flag will be the sequel's title, and it will also sail on the sea. To find the royal family of Goryeo's final treasure that disappeared mysteriously, a group of people will embark on a journey. The treasure was gone without leaving a trace when the Joseon Dynasty took over the previous kingdom.

The Film Production's Clarifications About The Issue

After the news broke regarding the Pirates 2 staff tested positive for COVID-19, a representative made an official statement. He said that it is true that a staff member has tested positive for COVID19. However, the said staff is a special effects team member.

He added that they have discovered that he tested positive for the virus sometime after working on the 'Pirates 2' set.

After that, all of the special effects team crew members have undergone testing, and all of them received negative results. As of now, the movie's filming has resumed as scheduled, as there is no known contact between this crew member and the rest of the filming staff and cast.
