Hwasa Addresses 'Racy Performance' Controversy: More Concerned About Her Voice Than The Charges
Hwasa (28, real name Ahn Hye-jin), a member of the K-pop group MAMAMOO, has publicly addressed the situation after facing allegations of obscene performance.
The controversy arose following her performance on July 15th at the 'PSY SUMMER SWAG 2023' held at Yeosu's Jinam Sports Complex. As a guest performer, Hwasa took the stage in a white bralette paired with a dark beige crop cardigan and miniskirt.
Just before her final stage, Hwasa shared with the audience, "I was really worried that my voice wouldn't come out, but this was my biggest concern, even more than the charges I'm facing," causing the audience to laugh.
She continued, "Being on stage is truly amazing. All the worries and fears seem to disappear once I'm on it." This statement was met with a storm of supportive cheers from the audience.
Hwasa added, "I will draw on your positive energy to keep moving forward. Are you all ready for the last song? Are you ready to go crazy?" She engaged the crowd, whipping up their excitement.
She then requested, "Could Psy spray more water on the stage? I heard he personally controls the water from backstage. It's no joke. Can I please have more water? Let's move on to the final medley." Following her remarks, she energetically traversed the stage, showing off her vocal prowess.
This controversy started back in May when Hwasa performed her song "Don't Give It To Me" at a festival at Sungkyunkwan University for a taping of the TV show 'Dancing Singer Troop.' During the performance, Hwasa sat with her legs apart and touched her tongue with her hand before sliding her hand up a specific part of her body, which ignited controversy over the performance's appropriateness.
Following this, the Student-Parent Human Rights Association (SPHRA) filed charges against Hwasa for obscenity in performances, claiming that her performance caused discomfort to viewers.
