MBC’s “The King of Mask Singer” features a group of contestants on August 16, challenging Madame Rose as she attempts her fifth consecutive win.

The episode’s match up round was between Diver and Virgin Ghost.

Singing Younha’s “Waiting,” Diver impressed the panelist with her bright and emotional vocal tone and performance details. While Virgin Ghost sang “Eun Eum Eum” of Park Jin Young and made the panelists bop along to the exciting and fun performance.

Virgin Ghost, in the end, received more votes to proceed on round three. And after, it was revealed that the masked Diver was the former T-ara member Soyeon.

Soyeon said that she thought Kim Gura would recognize her. She continued that she went on “Radio Star” when she first debuted with T-ara, and she was complimented having a voice with han (a unique Korean word meaning sorrow, regret, or deep emotion).

Meanwhile, SeeYa’s Lee Boram, who had been in the same agency with T-ara, had guessed Soyeon’s identity before the unmasking. She expressed that she had been watching Soyeon since her debut and thought her voice was unique, which only Soyeon could fit on.

Lee Boram said that she’s grateful seeing Soyeon on the show despite her curiosity about Soyeon’s hiatus. “I’m happy that she dares to come on the show, and seeing her is a welcome relief.”

Soyeon then shared that her guesting is very meaningful since it was T-ara’s anniversary (the next day of the recording). She explained that the fans asked her to come back through “The King of Mask Singer.”

She continued saying, “I thought that it would be better for me to start my solo career in making an appearance on ‘The King of Mask Singer.’ But I was nervous.”

Boram and Soyeon, in 2017, chose not to renew their contracts with MBK Entertainment, and this July, Soyeon signed in another agency. Other members of T-ara renewed for a few months longer before leaving the agency. And despite T-ara’s announcement that they are not disbanded in the past, each member has been active as a solo artist.
