Never before has a K-pop girl group simultaneously topped the US 'Billboard 200' and placed three songs on the Billboard 'Hot 100.' NewJeans, within a year of their debut, has astonishingly grown and adorned a page in Korean pop music history.

According to the latest Billboard chart released on August 2nd (local time), NewJeans' second mini-album 'Get Up' has topped the 'Billboard 200.' The album's triple title songs, 'Super Shy,' 'ETA,' and 'Cool With You,' ranked 48th, 81st, and 93rd respectively on the Billboard 'Hot 100.'

Billboard reported, "NewJeans' second mini-album 'Get Up' recorded a considerable sales volume of 126,500 in the U.S. (sales from July 21st to 27th). Over the past 15 years, only two girl groups, BLACKPINK and NewJeans, have topped the 'Billboard 200' chart."

Billboard also noted that in addition to 'Super Shy' peaking at number 48 on the 'Hot 100' chart, two other NewJeans songs made a new entry. It's the first time a K-pop girl group has placed three songs on the 'Hot 100' all at once. Looking at K-pop artists overall, BTS was the only one to achieve this feat until now.

The 'Billboard 200' ranks based on a combination of traditional physical album sales, Streaming Equivalent Album (SEA) numbers, which convert streaming numbers into album sales, and Track Equivalent Album (TEA) numbers, which convert digital song downloads into album sales. It's a chart that reflects the size of a loyal fan base.

The 'Hot 100' song chart aggregates physical single and digital song sales, streaming numbers, radio airplay scores, and YouTube views. It's also known as a 'grassroots chart' because it's hard to even make an entry without actual popularity among American music fans.

NewJeans have etched their name into these two main Billboard charts, deviating from the popularity trends shown by previous K-pop stars. They first made a mark on the Billboard 'Hot 100.' In January, NewJeans already had two songs, 'Ditto' and 'OMG' from their single album, on the 'Hot 100.' They were only six months into their debut at that time.

Thus, NewJeans' topping the 'Billboard 200' can be seen as an 'expansion of a global fandom based on mass popularity.' It's significant in confirming NewJeans' sustainable future, showing they are not a 'One Hit Wonder.'

In reality, when translating streaming counts or download numbers into sales, it's advantageous to have many tracks on an album. However, NewJeans' second mini-album, with just six tracks, managed to top the 'Billboard 200.' This is an unusually small number of tracks for a 'Billboard 200' number one album, and half of those songs, three in total, simultaneously made it onto the 'Hot 100.'

On August 3rd, at 5 p.m. (7 a.m. on August 4th Korean time), NewJeans will take the stage at the large American music festival 'Lollapalooza Chicago.' They are the first K-pop girl group to perform on this stage. The performance will be broadcast live worldwide via Weverse Live, YouTube channels (outside of the U.S.), and Hulu (U.S.).
