MAMAMOO's member Hwasa has been reported for obscenity charges during a performance by a parent-teacher association. However, the discomfort some felt towards Hwasa's performance is now shifting towards the discomfort about the lawsuit.

On the 10th, the Seongdong Police Station in Seoul revealed that Hwasa has recently been reported by the Student Parents' Human Rights Solidarity (hereafter, 'Parental Solidarity') for an obscenity charge, and the investigation has begun. The Parental Solidarity claimed in their report that "Hwasa's act suggests perverse sexual relationships and is enough to cause embarrassment to the public who witnessed it," and they also asserted, "It does not fit within the context of choreography and cannot be interpreted as an artistic act."

Hwasa performed at Sungkyunkwan University festival for the shooting of the tvN entertainment program 'Dance Singer Troupe' in May. During her solo song 'Don't Give It To Me,' she spread her thighs apart, licked her hand, and ran her hand up a specific body part. The performance video quickly spread online, causing mixed opinions about Hwasa's performance. While there were views calling it "obscene," many opinions stated, "It's just a performance" and "The university festival is for adults, what's the harm in a bit of risqué?"

Amid this, most are finding the report by the Parental Solidarity absurd. 'Obscenity during a performance' means an openly obscene act. 'Openly' refers to a state that can be recognized by many, and 'obscene act' refers to acts that excite or satisfy sexual desire, causing feelings of shame or disgust to people. Experts have also expressed the viewpoint that unless Hwasa has exposed a specific body part, it should not be a matter of criminal punishment.

The public also mostly reacts, "The performance could be uncomfortable to watch, but a lawsuit is too much." It was a university festival, not for minors, and the on-site atmosphere was one of cheering and enjoying Hwasa's performance, thus the lawsuit seems out of touch with the times. Ultimately, the controversy surrounding Hwasa's performance is shifting to voices criticizing the Parental Solidarity's report.

Meanwhile, a police official stated, "We plan to summon the accused for investigation if necessary after reviewing the case." A representative of Hwasa's agency also conveyed, "We are internally verifying the facts."
