As the 76th Cannes International Film Festival is set to take place from May 16 to 27, the list of actors who received invitations includes a number of K-pop stars, drawing attention.

First, BLACKPINK's Jennie has received an invitation to Cannes Film Festival for her first movie challenge. The buzzworthy non-competitive film "The Idol," featuring Jennie, is set against the backdrop of the music industry in Los Angeles, focusing on the relationships surrounding a rising female pop singer. In the teaser for "The Idol" released last October, Jennie showcased her strong presence despite her brief appearance.

While Jennie's attendance at the Cannes Film Festival remains uncertain, it is expected to be a glamorous debut stage for her as an actress in addition to her already established position as a singer. Foreign media also anticipate that "Jennie, who is highly recognized as a BLACKPINK member, could attract Gen Z if she attends the festival."

Next-generation rapper Bibi has also received an invitation to the Cannes Film Festival. Bibi makes her entrance to Cannes through "Hwaran," which was selected as a noteworthy film for the festival. "Hwaran" (directed by Kim Chang-hoon) is a noir drama that tells the story of a boy named Yeon-gyu, who wants to escape his hellish reality and ends up in a precarious world with middle boss Chi-geon.

Bibi was chosen to play the role of Ha-yan, Yeon-gyu's younger sister, after passing a highly competitive audition. Bibi, who has raised expectations for her new career as an actress, said about her Cannes debut, "It's so surreal. I'm very grateful and will do my best, but it feels like I'm just adding a spoonful to the great work done by the director, actor Song Joong-ki, and actor Hong Sa-bin."

Singer and actress Krystal, who has been showcasing increasingly stable acting skills from "High Kick! Revenge of the Short Legged," "The Heirs," "Bride of Habaek," "Wise Prison Life," to "Sweet and Sour," has received a Cannes invitation for the non-competitive film "CobWeb."

"CobWeb," starring last year's Cannes Best Actor Song Kang-ho, portrays the struggles of Director Kim (played by Song Kang-ho), who becomes obsessed with creating a masterpiece in the 1970s amidst government censorship and the uncooperative attitudes of actors. Krystal, a former member of the second-generation K-pop idol group f(x), is expected to captivate the global stage once again through the big screen.

Meanwhile, the 76th Cannes International Film Festival will be held in the southern French resort city of Cannes from May 16 to 27, with a total of five Korean films invited, including "CobWeb," "Escape," "Hwaran," "Sleep," and "Our Day."
