Mnet has been receiving mixed reactions from K-pop fans on social media for continuing with the "Boys Planet" finale broadcast despite the recent passing of ASTRO Moonbin.

Mnet Announces 'Boys Planet' Finale to Air as Scheduled - Channel Faces Backlash for 'Disrespecting' ASTRO Moonbin's Passing

The unexpected and tragic news of ASTRO Moonbin's passing led to the postponement and cancellation of various entertainment events and schedules as the industry mourned the loss of the young idol. However, Mnet and CJ ENM announced that the broadcasts of their music show, "M Countdown," and idol survival program, "Boys Planet," would continue as planned on April 20.

Mnet and CJ ENM stated that the usual program featuring various artists would be toned down in comparison to regular episodes, and idols would be asked not to post photos from the show. Additionally, the production team would include a message of remembrance for the late idol.

The highly anticipated "Boys Planet" finale will also proceed as scheduled, revealing the final nine trainees who will make up the debut lineup. The last competition for the 18 finalists will take place at Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium in Jamsil-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul, starting at 8:50 p.m. KST.

An official stated:

"After lengthy discussions regarding whether to proceed with the final live broadcast, we have decided to continue according to the scheduled plan."

This decision led to criticism from various K-pop fandoms and netizens who felt that it was disrespectful for Mnet to proceed with the two shows while Moonbin's family, colleagues, and fans were mourning his passing.

Some supporters of the 18 trainees, particularly international fans, even suggested postponing the show, as they believed they would not be able to fully enjoy it due to the recent tragedy.

Moreover, fans expressed concerns about their inability to wholeheartedly congratulate and cheer for the winners in light of the sad news.

Mnet Defended by Some Over Decision Not to Cancel 'Boys Planet' Finale Initially, the production team emphasized their own struggle with the tragic news ahead of the major event.

A music industry official explained:

"We are holding a meeting because all the celebrities scheduled for the event today are also concerned. We will have a clearer understanding when the results of the production team meeting are released."

Following Mnet's decision to proceed with "Boys Planet" as planned, some netizens defended the channel, arguing that it would be nearly impossible for the organizers to cancel or postpone the event due to the venue and ticket sales. With both local and international attendees expected, many felt that the event should go on as scheduled.
