Actor Song Joong-ki will walk the red carpet at Cannes Film Festival for the first time with the noir film "Hwaran" (directed by Kim Chang-hoon). It remains to be seen whether Song Joong-ki will walk the red carpet with his wife Katie.

On April 13, the Cannes Film Festival Executive Committee unveiled the official selection list for the 76th Cannes International Film Festival. The announcement was made by Executive Director Thierry Frémaux and President of the Organizing Committee Lys Kno'bloh.

"Hwaran," directed by Kim Chang-hoon and featuring Song Joong-ki, was invited to the non-competitive section "Un Certain Regard." "Un Certain Regard" introduces 20 original and unusual works from various regions and cultures. As 'Hwaran' is Kim Chang-hoon's debut film, it is also a candidate for the Golden Camera Award. The Golden Camera Award selects the best of all debut films invited to the Cannes Film Festival, including those in the competitive sections and non-competitive sections, Directors' Fortnight, and Critics' Week.

The film "Hwaran" (directed by Kim Chang-hoon) starring Song Joong-ki tells the story of a boy named Yeon-kyu who wants to escape his hellish reality and ends up in a precarious world after meeting the organization's mid-level boss, Chi-geon. This feature debut by director Kim Chang-hoon, who left an impression with the short film "Dance with My Mother," showcases Song Joong-ki's powerful character transformation as Chi-geon. Actors Hong Sa-bin and Kim Hyung-seo, who is also active as a singer under the name 'Bibi,' also star in the film.

This will be Song Joong-ki's first time attending the Cannes Film Festival. Fans in Korea and around the world are excited about the Hallyu star's Cannes debut. Particularly, attention is focused on whether he will attend the festival with his wife, British actress Katie Louise Saunders, as it will be their first global red carpet appearance since their wedding announcement.

The 76th Cannes International Film Festival will be held from May 16th to 27th over 12 days in Cannes, southern France. The Cannes Film Festival, along with the Berlin International Film Festival and the Venice International Film Festival, is considered one of the top three film festivals in the world. It is particularly well-regarded among filmmakers as the most prestigious film event.
