South Korean singer BoA, 34, fails to comply with the proper clearance procedures, leading her and her companion to be investigated.

BoA illegally transporting Zolpidem to South Korea

Kwon Bo-a, aka BoA, was investigated and questions by prosecutors for secretly carrying drugs and illegally transporting them from Japan to South Korea. The matter made headlines in various news sites on December 17 (Thursday), with Allkpop reporting that BoA was held for questioning the previous day.

Aside from the singer, a staff from SM Entertainment, BoA's home management was with the singer during the process. But it was said that it is the staff from the agency to be blamed for the happening, as it is a bare careless act.

The staff slipped the drugs, which are considered sleeping pills called Zolpidem, among many others they were carrying. The tablets lack clearance procedures, which are a requirement; especially, the singer is transporting it from Japan to South Korea.

And since the agency did not have the needed papers to back up their handle, the team and BoA were investigated thoroughly. Report says that neither BoA nor the SM Entertainment staff has the right amount of knowledge regarding such a process.

SM Entertainment issued a statement

In response to the happening, SM Entertainment immediately blurted out its statement towards BoA's case.

"Recently, BoA took a prescribed sleeping pill after receiving a doctor's opinion that she needed sufficient sleep due to a decrease in growth hormones, but the side effects were severe," the agency said.

Moreover, the sleeping pills and other drugs carried by BoA is a legal prescription by a professional medical doctor after she was checked at a local hospital. However, it is not under the staff's knowledge that it will be a huge problem when the drugs are taken in South Korea.

SM Entertainment ensures strengthening knowledge imparts to all its employees to avoid BoA's experience from happening again to the singer and other artists and staff.
