The Multifaceted Songstress: Lee Halyn's Journey Through Various Professions to Sing Her Truth
Lee Halyn has exposed her sincerity towards singing through various roles, from being a vocal trainer to a professor in Applied Music. Now, she's finally sharing her voice as a singer with the public and enjoying the exceptional journey.
On the 5th of this month, Lee Halyn released her debut single, 'Your Butterfly'. The song is intended to offer comfort and courage to all who are working hard today and tomorrow. Halyn sings with a heartfelt wish that our lonely and painful lives could become a 'tomorrow of hope'.
The first time is always unforgettable, and for Lee Halyn, it's even more meaningful as she faced and overcame a crisis that could have ended her singing forever. In 2011, she suffered severe facial injuries in a car accident, underwent five major surgeries, and walked through a long tunnel of fear with no end in sight.
Having overcome these hard times, Halyn said, "I wanted this experience to serve as a beacon of hope and positive energy for others if I could return to music. That's why I released this album. It's a song that provides healing and comfort to me, and I hope listeners feel the same."
For a singer, the face is not just for appearance but also a crucial part of the performance. There were countless moments when Halyn wanted to give up singing because of her injuries. However, the comforting words from someone, 'There is a reason for everything that doesn't kill you', allowed her to stand up again.
Lee Halyn's career is colorful. For 15 years, she has been teaching students in Applied Music at the university level. She has also worked as a lecturer at planning agencies, broadcast stations, and academies. She's built her skills and experience by participating as a chorus member in the broadcasts and performances of singers like Lim Jae Beom and Sung Si Kyung and worked as a vocal trainer for trainees in both large and small entertainment companies.
This trajectory originated from a will not to give up on her dream, even when she felt a limit to sustaining her life as a singer. Facing the harsh reality that 'it's hard to earn money with music', Lee Halyn started working as a teacher at institutions. She built a stable environment where she could continue her musical activities while utilizing her talents.
Reflecting on her busy days, Halyn said, "Having a profession of your own is a good thing. You can raise capital to release an album. Artists don't have many social activities, but I realized it's good to have community life. It helped me better understand myself. That's why I tell my students that they can do music even after finding a job. I hope they don't focus only on one thing."
This is how Lee Halyn, through her various roles, faces students, juniors, and other competitors every day. When asked about what she considers most important when meeting people who dream from a position of objectivity and advice, Halyn pondered for quite some time before answering, "Will and sincerity."
She said, "The difference between people who succeed and those who don't is will. Of course, innate talent is important for singing, but we can't ignore the will. Believing that you can do it and achieve it is crucial. It's a battle of who can run till the end. Whether to just dream vaguely or move into action depends on will. We can't ignore sincerity either. It's easy to say that we're always sincere and doing our best, but it's hard to practice it."
For her, the weapon she possesses is 'warmth'. Rather than dazzling charisma on stage, she stressed that her strength lies in her gentle ability to soothe the hearts of listeners. She said, "I believe I'm a singer who can make people's hearts generous and kind. Even when times are tough or when there's sadness, I want to be a singer that makes people feel loved. That's my wish."
"I want to be evaluated and critiqued through this album. It will help determine the direction of my next album. I want to consistently show you my music. I will continually communicate with my students and juniors at school. I gain the energy to continue as a singer by communicating with them. Ultimately, I dream of having my own label. I want to help friends who face practical difficulties when they want to release an album."
