Bloomberg Proclaims BLACKPINK As The Biggest Korean Artist Worldwide
In a report from Bloomberg, the media company held a Pop Star Power Ranking list for the month of November. It turns out that BLACKPINK has taken the number one spot on the said list.
The Bloomberg report stated that BLACKPINK has officially ranked number one for November for the Pop Star Power Rankings Chart, beating out other artists such as Pop Smoke, Cardi B, Justin Bieber, Drake, Ariana Grande, and more.
The monthly ranking system incorporates six categories, including live gross ticket sales, album sales, Spotify streams, Youtube videos, Instagram interactions, and more. BLACKPINK is the first musical artist from Asia and South Korea group to top the Bloomberg Pop list.
According to Bloomberg, it only takes three minutes to blow Jeremy Erlich’s mind. While working at Interscope Records, Erlich, his contact from Korea, sent him a video for BLACKPINK’s “DDU-DU-DDU-DU,” the girl group’s 2018 single. “Put aside the fact that I couldn’t understand half of it, the visuals are incredible, the girls are stars, the music is good, and it’s catchy,” said Erlich.
The current CFO of Spotify said, “The ambition was to be the biggest band in the world. They said ‘how do they become the Spice Girls?’” Today, the dream has now come to fruition as BLACKPINK becomes one of Youtube's most popular acts for the past couple of months, generating more than one billion views in October alone.
Along with BTS, BLACKPINK has achieved a level of worldwide stardom unrivaled in the history of music.
Musicians who speak English have traveled all over the world for decades. Musicians who speak Spanish have started to top the charts in the Western hemisphere over the last decade. However, in the past couple of years, Asian artists have garnered strong followings across the U.S., Europe, and Latin America.
