NewJeans' 'Get Up' Breaks Records with Over 1.65 Million Copies Sold in First Week, Ranks Second among K-pop Female Artists
Girl group NewJeans has showcased an impressive record in album sales.
According to Hanteo Chart on July 28, NewJeans' (Minji, Hani, Daniel, Haerin, Hyein) second mini-album 'Get Up' sold a total of 1,651,810 copies within the first week of release (from July 21 to 27). This figure is the second-highest initial week sales for a female K-pop artist ever.
Last August, NewJeans set a new record for initial week sales of a girl group debut album with their first mini-album 'New Jeans,' selling 310,000 copies. Then, their single album 'OMG' sold 700,000 copies just a week after its release in January of this year. It doubled the sales volume of the debut album.
The second mini-album 'Get Up' has once again marked a new high, selling over 1.65 million copies in the initial week, more than doubling the previous work's sales. In particular, nearly 1.2 million copies were sold on the day of release alone, making them achieve the three-peat million-seller record.
Meanwhile, NewJeans' second mini-album 'Get Up' consists of a total of six tracks, including the triple title tracks 'Super Shy,' 'ETA,' and 'Cool With You.' The girls showcased music videos and performances for all tracks, boasting an unprecedented scale. The album has been receiving rave reviews from international media outlets, including Pitchfork, Grammy.com, and NME.
