Tragic Discovery: Renowned Soprano Lee Sang-eun Found Deceased in Concert Hall Restroom, Police Investigating
Renowned soprano Lee Sang-eun has tragically passed away.
According to the Gyeongbuk Fire Department on July 7, Lee Sang-eun was found collapsed in a restroom at the Samrakdong Cultural Arts Center in Gimcheon City on the afternoon of the 6th.
Lee was scheduled to perform at the 33rd regular concert of the Gimcheon City Chorus, invited by the Yeongnam-Mokpo City Chorus on that day.
As the time of the performance approached and Lee had not yet made an appearance, a staff member went to find her and made the tragic discovery in the restroom. Lee was transferred to a nearby hospital by a 119 rescue team, but she was already deceased.
The police are currently investigating the exact circumstances of her death.
Lee Sang-eun was a graduate of Seoul National University's School of Music and earned a master's degree from the Mannes School of Music in New York. She won awards at various competitions including the Metropolitan Opera Competition in New York and the Connecticut Opera Competition.
