Why Doesn't YG Confirm Dating Rumors? Insight from an Insider Amid Jennie & V Dating Rumors
Once again, YG Entertainment has kept mum about singer Jennie's dating rumors.
On the 18th, a video rapidly circulated across online communication channels showcasing BTS's V and BLACKPINK's Jennie seemingly on a date, hand in hand.
The video reveals V and Jennie walking hand in hand along the Seine River in Paris, France, without hiding their faces. This marks the third instance of such rumors concerning the pair. Despite this, Jennie's agency, YG Entertainment (hereafter 'YG'), has maintained a consistent stance of neither acknowledging nor denying the rumors.
In the past, YG did not comment on dating rumors involving other artists, including Lee Chan-hyuk and Kang Seung-yoon. The phrases 'unconfirmable' and 'no comment' are so commonly associated with YG's response that the term 'YG-style rhetoric' has emerged.
However, YG wasn't always non-responsive.
Back in 2017, YG confirmed the romantic relationship between actors Nam Joo-hyuk and Lee Sung-kyung. Both were under YG's management and starred together in dramas like 'Cheese in the Trap' and 'Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo'. They announced their break up on August 18th of the same year.
In 2015, the agency also confirmed the dating rumors between singer Taeyang and actress Min Hyo-rin. YG's boss, Yang Hyun-suk, expressed his congratulations in a phone interview with a media outlet, saying, "It's Taeyang's first girlfriend. The experience of dating will help when he sings or stands on the stage."
So when did YG start employing this 'YG-style rhetoric'? Industry insiders claim that acknowledging dating rumors could deal a significant blow, especially since BLACKPINK is currently YG's main group.
In fact, YG has been proactively addressing dating rumors concerning BLACKPINK members. Last April, BLACKPINK's Rosé and actor Kang Dong-won were swept up in dating rumors. At that time, YG unusually and strongly denied the rumors.
YG initially announced their stance as "it's a private matter and can't be confirmed," only to later reverse it, declaring that "Rosé and Kang Dong-won's dating rumors are not true."
In other news, both Jennie and Rosé were invited to the 76th Cannes Film Festival. Jennie, who starred in the HBO drama 'The Idol,' was invited to the non-competitive section of the festival as an actress. Rosé, who is active as a global ambassador for Saint Laurent, was invited by the brand and walked the red carpet on the 17th, local time.
