Ahn Young-mi Addresses Controversy Over 'Birth Tourism' in the US: 'It's Too Early to Worry About Military Service for My 8-Month-Old Baby'
Television personality Ahn Young-mi has opened up about the controversy surrounding her decision to give birth in the United States.
On the 8th, Ahn Young-mi expressed her stance on the issue of 'birth tourism' through a comment on her own social media post.
Ahn Young-mi married an employee of a foreign company in 2020, and after three years of marriage, she became pregnant and was expecting to give birth in July. In the process, news broke that Ahn Young-mi would soon be heading to the United States for the birth, sparking the so-called 'birth tourism' controversy.
Some netizens speculated that if Ahn Young-mi gave birth in the United States, her unborn child could potentially benefit from dual citizenship.
In a comment, Ahn Young-mi said to one netizen, "Our baby is now 8 months old. That's still inside my belly. It seems like a far-fetched concern to already be thinking about military service," and added, "Instead of speculating about the unknown future, why not bless the baby who is currently wriggling in my belly?"
Ahn Young-mi continued, "If my husband was in Vietnam or the Philippines, I would have gone there. It's a precious time in life, with pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting. How can I do that all alone? I have to do it with my loving husband."
