BLACKPINK: Fans Compare K-Pop Girl Band's Hiatus To Korean Male Idol's Military Service Length
South Korean megaband BLACKPINK, comprising of members Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa, has been majorly missing in action as a group for quite some time now.
It has been a long time since the group has made a comeback. The fact is also very surprising as BLACKPINK is among the most successful K-pop bands ever.
BLACKPINK fans, who are collectively known as the BLINKS, have been waiting for over a year for some good news of sorts.
There are many online communities and social media platforms, where fans have been sharing their unsatisfactory feelings about the group's absence. There are scores of complaints regarding the group's long hiatus.
Recently, a fan post compared BLACKPINK's hiatus to be of the same length as that of a Korean male idol serving the country's mandatory military service.
According to the post, the massively popular group has only released 23 songs in the span of seven years of promotions and has not made a comeback in over a year. Hence, fans are complaining that the hiatus of BLACKPINK is as long as the duration K-pop male idols serve for their compulsory military service.
Aggrieved fans have made comments about YG Entertainment, which is the managing label of BLACKPINK. BLINKS have been addressing YG with questions such as why are they doing this with a group of geniuses and to please do some work.
Fans also said that the band maknae Lisa's solo was in 2021 and the group has not made a comeback for nearly two years. Some even said that the hiatus was not comparable but rather longer than Korea's mandatory military service.
The group's last release was the Japanese version of "The Album", which included Japanese versions of four out of the eight tracks, namely "You Never Know", "Lovesick Girls", "Pretty Savage", and "How You Like That", released on August 3, 2021. The release came in 12 different physical editions, however, it was not really a comeback.
BLACKPINK's last released Korean song was "Lovesick Girls", which was dropped on October 2, 2020.
Fans are also disappointed because according to them YG Entertainment has made each of the super talented singers into models and brand ambassadors for international luxury brands because it was probably more profitable that way.
The four members have also been concentrating on their own solo debuts as well as acting careers, as in the case of the band unnie Jisoo.
